PAYLEF Leadership Training Programme vision is to raise exemplary leaders across the continent who together become the catalysts for change and transformation of Africa.
OUR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME
PAYLEF Leadership Programme focuses on building strategic leadership across the continent by developing exemplary leaders representing all spheres of society. It does so primarily through its flagship programme, the prestigious LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME. Our Alumni will form a dynamic network of Leaders passionately committed to the continent’s transformation, bridging the divide between nations and ensuring that Africa is set centrestage in global affairs.








The Foundation recognised that in order to achieve the most impact in Africa, developing the next generation of leaders should be the highest priority.
The programme was created with the understanding that service, Integrity and self awareness are foundational to great leadership, seeking to navigate the complexities and challenges of African leadership in a global context, the programme presents participants with the African perspective required of Africa’s future leaders.
The Leadership Programme is broken into three Segment
FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME
As PAYLEF leadership most prestigious programme, the fellowship programme welcomes an elite group of Africa’s highest potential young leaders, representing a wide range of sectors. The programme includes two weeks intensive online and on-site Learning Modules with an impressive array of distinguished faculty Members.
The programme has been designed for Young African Leaders. It provides participants with an intensive learning and broadening experience on the principles and application of leadership, and an opportunity to explore the issues and specific characteristics of leadership in Africa, as well as the global challenges and dimensions of an African leader.
The programme places emphasis on learning and experiencing, not teaching, offering a variety of formal and innovative informal learning opportunities to enhance the leadership capabilities of the participants. Emphasis is also placed on peer interaction and feedback, and the participants highly value being able to share pan-African perspectives and experiences.
Overall, it provides a unique environment for mid-career self-reflection on one’s leadership journey in transforming Africa.
Between modules, Group Projects are undertaken. The objective of the project is for the group to develop solutions for some of the challenges that Africa is facing. This is an opportunity for participants to work through the scenario planning methodology and put it into practice.
Upon completing the Programme, The Fellows return to play active roles in their respective communities, countries and spheres of influence. Great value is placed upon becoming a member of an established exclusive and supportive network of Africa’s future leaders – the PAYLEF Fellows. As part of this network of global leaders, all Fellows are expected to attend.
PAYLEF Summit and Workshops, as well as function as ambassadors for the Fellowship across all segments of society.
Selection Process
The fellowship programme is aimed at the young leaders, specifically targeting the next generation of Africa’s leaders in all sectors of society, between the ages of 25 and 40.
Candidates must be citizens of an African country, and must be currently living in Africa, or temporarily placed abroad by their employer or completing further education abroad or working on African projects for a global organisation. They should be committed to living in Africa and to actively contributing to its long-term success. We are keen to seek outstanding candidates who may not otherwise have access to such a leadership training opportunity or who have not yet benefitted from the variety of leadership initiatives now being offered by various institutions.
Only nominated Participants will be considered for acceptance into the programme.
Nominators are required to complete the Nomination Form for a proposed participant with a deadline for receipt of nominations is end of December in the year prior to the programme. Nomination forms will be reviewed and selected nominees invited to submit an application to PAYLEF. In terms of selection criteria, PAYLEF emphasizes integrity, strong values and responsibility, courage and a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire. A candidate must demonstrate a commitment to Africa and to serving the greater community.
ASSOCIATE PROGRAMME
The programme is for potential emerging leaders from government, civil society and business. The programme focuses on young leaders who want to be influential in their immediate community and beyond, young leaders from different sectors of society. The main objective is to create dialogue and group activities where participants are able to find solutions for issues that are mutually beneficial and benefit to their community.
On completing this programme, the participants also have a higher chance to be nominated for the Fellowship Programme, as this is a foundation for the Fellowship Programme.
A core value of this programme is syndicate work on building personal growth and development, community organizing for Action, offering the opportunity for future leaders in their respective sectors to share perspectives on issues, and to explore possible solutions.
Selection Process
The Associate Programme is for emerging leaders who, by their actions and achievements, have demonstrated their potential to be future leaders in their sector and Africa. Whether working in government, the private sector or civil society, these individuals demonstrate integrity, reinforced by strong values and principles. Importantly, participants need to be committed to living in Africa.
The Associate Programme is highly selective with approximately 50 candidates selected for programme per year. Participants must be between the ages of 18 – 25 years are invited following a nomination and selection process to identify potential emerging leaders. The selection process will be governed by strict guidelines to ensure the highest quality of participants.
LEADERSHIP SCHOOL
The Programme is the most important amongst all our Leadership Programmes as we intend to the discover the new generation of Young Leaders in Africa. The participants who will be between the ages of 13 -18years as at year of programme, are going to be mentored by our fellows. The Programme will be in two parts, the Workshop and Field Project. The programme majorly on community action and personal growth and development.
The Workshop – Selected Participant will be invited for a 9 days’ workshop where they will learn leadership skills, personal development and community action.
Field Project – After the Workshop, the participants will be assigned a mentor who will guide them in executing selected Field community Project.
In addition, participants are required to develop their own individual projects (in consultation with their mentors) and submit by the end of Workshop for peer review. Over the years, the range of these Community Projects has been extensive and impactful with a strong focus on the youth.
Selection Process
This programme is for Teen Leaders who desire to be a part of community action, personal development and Leadership Skills.
The Intending Participant will send an essay on why he/she wants to be part of the programme, the faculty will decide on the Top 50 participants.

The Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation Leadership Programme aspires to be a catalyst for positive change, nurturing a generation of leaders who will drive Africa’s progress and contribute to global development.
